Scott City is a city of the second Class as provided for under Kansas statutes with a mayor and eight council members. General municipal elections are held in April of odd-numbered years with a primary if necessary in February. The Mayor and City Treasurer are elected at large on a non-partisan basis and serve two-year terms. The council is voted on by ward and serve four-year staggered terms.
