 | Get involved and STAY involved in your children's lives. Know where they
are, who they are with, and what they are doing. |
 | Get to know your children's friends and their parents, and make sure they
share the same values as your family regarding drug use and alcohol. |
 | Involve your children in adult-supervised after-school activities. |
 | Set curfews, limits, and rules and ENFORCE them. |
 | Keep an open, ongoing line of communication with your child. Let them know
they can talk to you about anything and questions are welcome. |
 | Talk to your kids about alcohol, drugs and tobacco. Set rules that this is
unacceptable and will result in consequences. |
 | Discuss the legal consequences of drug use. Tell them about possible job
loss, loss of driver's license, etc. |
 | Discuss the emotional side effects of drug use, such as isolation,
paranoia, etc. |
 | Keep your kids involved in sports and activities. Idle time gives children
the opportunity to get in trouble. |
 | Set the example! Actions speak louder than words. Don't be a user
yourself! |
