Do you know where your ancestors came from? Although one of you thought that your ancestors came from Wal-Mart, the most common country of ancestry was England. Seventy percent of you think that your ancestry is something to be proud of, while 40% of you disagree. Forty five percent of Holcomb High School student think that students from all races have the same privileges. Fourteen out of twenty students said that they hang out with their friends because they’re fun, not because of their race. However, 10% said that they only have friends of their own race. Twenty out of twenty people said that race doesn’t matter when picking their friends. A majority of students have noticed racial biases, however. According to this survey, the majority of those responding believe that Hispanic students get away with more. They also believe that the white population is shown bias against because, “everyone makes fun of the white people because it’s not too racist to insult the majority.” So, is there still segregation in Holcomb? You have to decide that for yourselves. According to this survey, people do not really care about the race of their friends, nor base their choices on the color of one’s skin. Maybe the question isn’t whether or not there is segregation, but whether segregation can ever be fully removed from this society. |
