ACT

Hello, my name is Jennifer LaSalle and I am the new counselor at Holcomb High School.  I am not a new face at Holcomb just in a new role.  I was the Family and Consumer Science teacher and the FCCLA advisor for 22 years.  Moving into the counseling position was an opportunity I could not pass.  I felt it was time for me to spread my wings and engage in a different form of education.  I truly care about the students at Holcomb High School and hope I can continue to have a positive influence on them.  My goal, as the High School counselor, is to encourage all students to be productive and successful citizens.  The counseling center is here for college preparation, career counseling and individual counseling.  Please contact me with any concerns or questions you my have about your son or daughter.

ACT

WHAT IS THE ACT?

The ACT is a national college admission exam which consists of four academic areas; English, mathematics, reading and science.  The exam usually takes 4 hours to complete and cost $30.00.   Students can take the ACT as often as he or she wishes.  Many students will take the test as a junior and then again as a senior. If you are a college bound student you need to take the ACT.

Students need to take the following items on the day of the test:

1.     Admission ticket

2.     Identification

3.     Sharpened soft lead No. 2 pencil

4.     Permitted calculator (visit www.actstudent.org for more details)

Students may NOT take the following items into the test room:

1.        Food or drink

2.        Books, dictionaries, notes, scratch paper, or other aids

3.        Highlighters, colored pens or pencils or correction fluid

4.        Any electronic device (pager, timer, beeper, cell phone, media player, headphones and camera)

WHY SHOULD STUDENTS TAKE THE ACT?

1. The ACT tests are accepted by virtually all colleges in the United States.

2. The ACT tests are curriculum based.

3. The ACT is more than a test.  It also serves as a career interest inventory and provides scholarship opportunities.
