Word of the Week for May 18th –May 22nd:
TOLERANCE
Dear Parent or Guardian:
This week we are studying about the character trait of tolerance:
The definition of tolerance is:
Recognizing and respecting the rights and beliefs of others.
To reinforce what your child is learning in class, it is extremely important you discuss with him or her the concept that all people have the right to live without being mistreated. Discuss how tolerance allows many different kinds of people to live together. Explain that although you may not share the views of others, you respect their right to hold those views.
“Tolerance is the oil that takes friction out of life.”
--Wilbert E. Scheer
Word for THE SUMMER!!!
Dear Parent or Guardian and students:
Our word to focus on this summer is trustworthiness.
The definition of trustworthiness is:
Being honest and worthy of a person’s trust and being someone who refuses to lie, steal,
or deceive in any way.
Your children have worked very hard this year to be good character kids. We are very proud of the students we have at Wiley and Holcomb Elementary schools!! To follow up on our character lessons from the year, I thought it would be good to have a word everyone focuses on this summer. Talk about the qualities you appreciate in people who are trustworthy and why you like to work with and know such people. Explain why you want your child to grow up to be a trustworthy person and that the more practice he or she gets now, the better!! Remind them that it is ALWAYS best to be honest.
“Few things can help an individual more than to place responsibility on him and let him know that you trust him.”
--Booker T. Washington
