Non-English and Limited Speakers: Kinder-prep through 3rd meets at 10:00 to 10:30 M-F and 1:30 to 2:00 (Miller, Kennedy, Peitz, Bascue, Symmonds, Knoll, Dover) 

In-class assistance provided daily by ESL paraprofessional.

1^st grade Reading meets at these times:

8:30 – 9:00 (Knoll) 9:30 – 10:00 (Eppinger) 1:00 – 1:30 Bascue/Symmonds

2^nd grade Reading meets at these times:

2:00 – 2:30 (Ornelas/Chamberlain) 3:00 - 3:30 (Smith) 3:00 - 3:30 (Dover/Chamberlain)

3^rd grade Reading meets at this time:

11:00 – 11:30 (Stoppel, Hammel)

In-class assistance provided daily by District paraprofessionals.

Individual Assistance is provided on Friday, as needed.

I am very proud of the students and the progress that they are making in beginning reading skills.

The students have been very busy mastering skills this semester. You, as the parent, may like to assist your child in the home. A list of skills follows:

ELL skills - certificates awarded at 100% mastery

*colors, shapes, community helpers, count to 30, days of the week

*name, address,city, state, phone, grade, age,

*seasons, weather, body parts, supplies, count to 50

First grade reading - certificates awarded at 90% mastery or above

*recognize and write the letters of the alphabet

*produce the sounds for each letter of the alphabet

*learn the blends

*learn the long and short vowel sounds

*learn the word families

*learn the 100 basic sight word list

*read 5 "little" books - with 100% mastery

Second grade reading - certificates awarded at 90% mastery

*learn the blends

*learn the long and short vowel sounds

*learn the word families

*learn the common prefixes and suffixes

*apply the rules to sound out nonsense words

*use grade level vocabulary words in sentences

*5 reading passages - completed at 80% mastery

Third grade reading - certificates awarded at 90% mastery or above

*learn the common prefixes and suffixes

*apply the rules to sound out nonsense words

*use grade level vocabulary words in sentences

First grade Spelling - certificates awarded at 90% mastery or above
